CONFERENCE CORNER
Tired of Times Square, time for some fresh air – then you should head to Saratoga Springs, New York for the ARMA Northeast Region Education and Leadership Conference. The Northeast Region team have been working to the bone putting together an unbelievable program that has something for everyone. You can view the agenda at: www.armanortheast.org/
To balance this great educational program with some of the fresh air mentioned above, here are some of the other things to do:
1) On Saturday, June 7 there will be a golf outing which Steve and Marcel Rodriquez are organizing. As some of you may already know, this area is home to some great courses including the Sagamore (www.thesagamore.com) which is reported to be a four star course and the Saratoga National Golf Club. The Saturday event will be fun for all the northeast golfers. The time, place and cost will be announced shortly.
2) Saratoga Springs is well known for its mineral springs and baths. In fact, the Sagamore mentioned above has a great spa. Congress Park which is directly across from the visitors center has both the Congress Spring and the Columbia Spring. The Old Red Spring is at the northern end of High Rock Park and contains a spring that allegedly does wonders for the complexion. That’s not too say that RIM professionals need this. If you want the full experience, you may want to try Lincoln Baths located on South Broadway. Here full treatments with soaks in spring waters are available.
3) Although it is too early to catch the New York City Ballet in their summer residence, you can still visit the National Museum of Dance which is opening a new exhibit on the Friday night of the conference. In fact, there will be an opening reception on Friday night for just $10. The name of the exhibit is “Steele and Smoke”. The museum website is: www.dancemuseum.org
4) The National Museum of Racing is open from 10 to 5 on Saturday. This museum has many interactive exhibits illustrating the history of the race track. You can also see the actual 1938 trophy won by Seabiscuit.
5) Caffe Lene has been voted “Best Small Venue in North America” by the International Folk Alliance. Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie and Ani DeFranco have all appeared here. On Friday, June 6 the Saratoga audience will be treated to the beautiful voice of Mallory O’Donnell. You can listen to Mallory at: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=139752150
6) Sunday evening June 8 the ARMA Metro and Boston ARMA Chapters will be co-sponsoring a dinner. Details to be announced.
